Midsummer is a magical time. Water becomes healing, fire cleanses and takes in all negativity, fern starts blooming, and herbs harvested on this day gain extraordinary power.
Fool House Art Collective
We’ve been dreaming of traditional Slavic festivals for our community for a long time. We are happy to begin this new tradition this summer and introduce you to Kupala, the first Slavic midsummer festival.

During the celebration, girls will weave eco-friendly flower crowns while men and boys will try making a goy. Wait, you have no idea what that is? Just come, and we will show and tell you everything. You’ll learn to make lavender sticks, decipher the symbols of the traditional embroidery, and create personal amulets. We will sing and dance around a willow, jump over the fire and set our crowns afloat on the water.

Children and adults will be able to participate in an interactive quest — “Find the fern flower.” You’ll also have a chance to taste teas brewed from local herbs harvested at their peak. You will learn about the midsummer herbs healing properties and explore traditional Ukrainian and Belorussian embroidered shirts.
