presents «Pillows», the performance based on a play by Olzhas Zhanaydarov «Pillow’s Soul«, the characters of which are simply pillows. They live together sharing their life stories and life dreams with each other. This course of the pillows’ life would continue if it hadn’t been … if it hadn’t been for someone else — some strange and unlikely being appearing among them. For the pillows, like for people, it can be so hard to get used to new things in lives.
«Pillows» play creates a multi-sensory experience for both actors and the audience.
For the actors themselves, the rehearsing process was quite an experiment supported by several training sessions aimed at sensing and exploring the world of smells, tastes, objects, sounds, light, space, and the surrounding environment as a whole. Sessions incorporated continuous interaction of the body with a variety of objects and structures. The sensory experience varied in nature and degree depending on a person’s mood and state of being on a particular day and time. Each practice ended with an in-depth discussion of the self-awareness incorporating experience gained during the rehearsal.
We hope that the show’s spectators will be able to feel the energy evolving from dialogues and communication between characters representing still-life objects. The actors in the story are to take the audience to the world of self-reflection, dream sharing, and imagination.
«The integrity of the drama performer lies in an ability to recognize and properly handle the substance of the play script. This skill is of utmost essential and is a talent on its own: getting to the bottom of what the author’s content can tell you about, what the properties and qualities it possesses, so it would be for an actor to transform all of it into the stage role/part playing».
